Do you care about any of the new features in Catalina that would make sticking to an older OS difficult? Is keeping the Journal more important than those features? Is it worth it to put that off for another couple of years once updated (and more secured) web browsers no longer support your OS? Are you getting a newer device sometime between now and then that would make this a moot point and you could just continue using this Mac for the purpose of journaling? Apple and most applications, like web browsers, tend to support a particular version of a MacOS for about 2-3 years after it is replaced. To import journals or entries on iOS, go to More, and then Import. It seems you've gone through all the possible choices and it's just about which one works better for you.
